“A Madman’s Dream” by Coma Beach

For as long as Würzburg alt-rock project Coma Beach has been producing their music, fans have been able to rest easy knowing that a counterculture still exists for those brave enough to seek it out. Serving to embody raw emotions and a chaotic rhythm within their music, they draw heavy inspiration from the early punk movement of several decades ago to create their unique style of thrashy and in-your-face music. As the band makes strides toward spreading their movement across the world with every release, their latest EP “A Madman’s Dream/Mind Descending” further cements their legacy as one of the last true punk outfits. Headlining the record, the first track “A Madman’s Dream” shines through as a seminal example of their proclivities as artists and a reflection of the music they stand for.

The track begins with screamed lyrics that read like poetry, punctuated by a heavy percussive beat in between verses. “A knot in the brain, a face full of pain / A mind gone insane, all shoutings in vain” set the tone, representing the work’s motif as they are shouted with a grungy timbre.

The rhythm quickly takes off with an elevated tempo and the piece takes flight. We feel the urge to jump into a mosh pit and circle around to the tune of this anthem until all energy has been burned from our bodies. Not since the days of the Dead Kennedys or Sex Pistols has a project represented such a fervent personification of what it means to truly stand up against conformity and advocate for such a primal expression of feelings.

Characterized by a heavy-hitting style of play and an adherence to their authentic musical principles, the track prompts an ability to let go of inhibitions as it blasts through your speakers.
