Embracing the electricity of Las Vegas and the lyrics of Nashville, The Rick Lee Vinson Group has released their 77th single “That’s What You Do.” The Las Vegas based singer/songwriter has found influence in both the rock world and the country world, letting the two combine for a stripped back rockabilly sound. The latest single was recorded in Nashville and written in Vegas, showing how The Rick Lee Vinson Group lets their influences blur.
“That’s What You Do” is an easy listening love song that lists out all the things that a man would do for love. Somewhat playful at times, lead singer Rick Lee Vinson sings about not wanting a cat despite his partner wanting one. The verse ends with a sarcastic “we got a cat” before resuming to the lightheartedness of the track.
The production is fun, and energetic with a hint of a 1960s doo-wop influence because of the tight backup vocals throughout. The guitar drives the track with drums leading the rhythm, painting the song with the occasional symbols. The influences of rock and country from those earlier decades is clear, he lets the lyrics do the talking like some of the country greats but also lets the music shine like some rock legends.
Overall, “That’s What You Do” captures the give and take of a relationship. It shows the two-sided aspect of relationships. That push and pull doesn’t have to be resentful, when talking about the song Vinson shared, “This song is about the lengths people in love will go to please each other.” So, it is an incredible sweet head in the clouds kind of love song.
