“Beaten Path Blues” by REX K & THE SNAKE PIT PHILHARMONIC

Rex K & The Snake Pit Philharmonic is a unique group that translates the importance of immense instrumentation to perform as storytelling within itself. The vocal performance has a jazz feel while really focusing on some moments of passion while trying to connect with the lyrics and adding in diverse harmonic values.

“Beaten Path Blues” really is just as much about the instrumental arrangements as it is about the vocal journey. This song is not just a song but a feeling. The feeling connects with the vintage feel of the 1960’s influenced sound by Motown and jazz. You can definitely feel this in the chorus with all the additions of harmonies.

Rex K & The Snake Pit Philharmonic is a band that you can tell connects with each other well and can read the music based off each other’s emotions. I loved all of the moments of mystery in this song and how the musical surprises got to me when I least expected them to. A perfect example is the bridge. The instrumental work was absolutely transcendent and borough this song to a level in which I didn’t know it could go to. And to finish with a simple instrumentation of acoustic piano chords was simply brilliant.

The production work really helps translate the overall genre to the listener and acts as the driving force that makes this song so strong. Really wonderful connection to the audience in so many ways. Well done on all counts!
