“Fallen Stars“ by Kazu Osumi

From the moment you hear the muffled drum beat and the affected chopped vocals at the start of the song, “Fallen Stars” by Kazu Osumi smoothly brings you into an atmospheric landscape, filled with expansive synth textures and uniquely filtered, echoing vocals. This alternative pop track, written about experiencing a deep connection with someone who you are not physically near, is captivating, thought-provoking, and fresh.

Osumi sings about an intense relationship with another person, using metaphorical language like “we’re fallen stars in a sea of moments” to describe how other-wordly the love between them feels. Intimate and interesting melodies do a great job of describing the experience of being separated from someone you love, but still feeling connected to them. Even when you are not with someone physically, Osumi believes you can connect with them through dreams, and with “Fallen Stars” she creates the perfect soundtrack for the listener to try.

The production and lyrics in “Fallen Stars” compliment each other beautifully. As Osumi describes a relationship as stars floating through space, the production makes the listener feel like they themselves are floating through space. Enveloping synths, rising melodies, and dreamy instrumental moments bring you up into the atmosphere, only delivering you back to Earth when the song comes to a close. The line “you’ll find me in this place where heaven meets Earth” feels quite literal, because as this song joins heavenly soundscapes with grounding, honest lyrics, it becomes a place where heaven meets the earth for the listener.
