“I See All You” by Mason Fink

Southern California-based indie artist Mason Fink has spent the better part of their life expressing their self through their music, but only recently have they stepped in front of the limelight to share this side of themselves with the world. By taking an honest approach to their craft from song inception to execution in the recording process, they strive to define their own genre through their unique lens with their art. Their Freshman release “I See All You” serves as an incredible debutante single as they ease listeners into a sense of comfortability through their soft vocals and lofi instrumentals.

The piece begins with a reverberant electronic echo as Fink sets the tone and builds the world of their sound around us. A series of poignant acoustic guitar cords strum in a calming pattern soon after and we feel pulled into the rhythm with ease. Fink’s vocals come in after a few bars and seal the deal as his soft yet powerful tone begins the narrative with the opening line “These are just dreams, we’re still here. Hollowed out our world just when I know why it cuts.”

Fink’s vocal delivery drives the message of the song home as much as their lyrics do with every verse. Accentuated with a similar charming style of vocal fry as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, while still projecting a comparable comforting sense of loftiness and sentimentality as Elliott Smith, the artist’s voice feels uniquely its own, leaving listeners intrigued by its range, and curious to see what emotions it can provoke in future releases.
