“What Christmas Means to Me“ by Robert Bacon

As the holiday season begins to ramp up, Robert Bacon’s joyful EP, “What Christmas Means To Me,” is the perfect soundtrack to celebrate with. Bacon offers six holiday songs with country and blues influence in this EP, using steady swaying rhythms and beautifully whining guitars to add a new take on the traditional sounds of Christmas music. With tracks that are upbeat and rocking, to tunes that are more lighthearted and fun, Bacon tactfully executes a dynamic and emotional journey throughout these songs.

The opening line of the first track, “Found Christmas” seems to answer the question of what Christmas means to Bacon immediately. He sings “don’t have to wait til the season arrives, I see the magic in your eyes/when I found you, I found Christmas.” Christmas to him is love, specifically the love with this person who holds all of the magic of the holiday season in their eyes alone. It’s a beautiful sentiment, reinforcing the idea that the holidays should be about spending time with loved ones, and even though the traditional gift exchanges are fun, nothing beats the blessing of just being near someone you love.

We learn more about what Christmas means to Bacon in the title track, which closes the EP. He reminisces on his youth, when he sang at church in his small town and celebrated Christmas traditions with his family. Simple closeness and shared joy is what the season is for, and Bacon reminds us all to feel that gratitude, and show it to our loved ones.
