“The Passenger Seat“ by Kyle and the Juggernaut

“The Passenger Seat” by Kyle and the Juggernaut is a vulnerable indie rock track that explores insecurity and low self-esteem, and how those feelings can be exacerbated when you’re around someone who seems so much cooler than you. Kyle and the Juggernaut is a new Bristol based band who uses rippling guitars, steady rhythms, and authentic lyrics to create a captivating landscape of visceral emotion and gripping sonics.

We all know at least one person in our lives who seems to light up a room and make everyone else, especially you, seem insignificant. Whether it’s romantic attraction or platonic infatuation, it feels like you would do literally anything just to be in their orbit and share the same space as them. Kyle and the Juggernaut captures this feeling perfectly, singing “I hope you give me the passenger seat” because of that strong desire to be near that person. This metaphor is taken a step further, though, with a line saying it would also be fine to be “tied up in the boot of the car.” If it means being near this person, the narrator of this song will relinquish all control and accept any kind of treatment. These extreme feelings are an authentic representation of how helpless we feel around someone we admire.

With long guitar instrumentals, whining melodies, desperate drums, and catchy call and response melodies, “The Passenger Seat” takes you through an intricate sonic journey that matches the ups and downs of the insecure, yet passionate, emotions in the story.
