“DANDELION“ by Cali Tucker

“DANDELION” by Cali Tucker is a country pop hit full of invigorating production and clever songwriting. This track was the first original song Tucker ever released, and though it originally came out in 2021, a recent resurgence in popularity has brought this great tune back to the forefront of our minds. A snapping rhythm, atmospheric slide guitar, and melodic electric guitar lay the groundwork for a high energy and emotionally tense song.

In this track, Tucker showcases her songwriting skills through the use of a creative metaphor comparing a dandelion to a toxic person in her life. Though a dandelion can look like a pretty flower at first glance, it is a weed by definition, and Tucker recognizes that same sort of deceit in the person she is singing about. A toxic relationship is almost never toxic at the beginning. Instead, that person appears perfect and sweet, inviting you in for what sounds like a beautiful time, and then morphing into something much worse. Lines like “wished you away, indefinitely, go plant your weed elsewhere” show Tucker waking up to this fact and working to separate herself from this toxicity.

The catchy melodies and uptempo beats of “DANDELION” match the building resolve Tucker has over removing this person from her life. For anyone who has experienced a toxic relationship, this track offers a cathartic space to release all of your conflicting emotions, as well as inspiring themes that help you build you own resolve to let go of the people that are bad for you.
