“Sympathetic Waveforms” by Stratafield is an eclectic album full of captivating instrumentation and genre blended arrangements. Jazzy rhythms, folk instrumentation, and electronic moments all work together to make this a one of a kind album that offers something satisfying for every listener. With songs ranging from swaying ballads to upbeat tunes, Stratafield showcases a diverse and impressive work of art.
An entirely instrumental album, Stratafield relies on the interplay of instruments and the rise and fall of the sonic landscape to tell a story rather than lyrics. No emotional depth is lost with the lack of lyrics, though, instead offering a welcoming and beautiful place for the listener to apply their own experiences and interpretations to the sounds of the tracks. The opening track, “Elysian Fields” is a gorgeous, celebratory track full of fluid acoustic guitars and piano, a steady rhythm, and shimmering percussion. The title of the song references Elysium, which is known in Greek mythology as a place in the afterlife where the most heroic and virtuous souls are sent to rest. The heavenly and peaceful joy of this track matches the myth well.
Another stand out track on the album is “Cumulonimbus Waltz,” which has an accompanying music video of cumulonimbus clouds dancing through the sky. Deep chords accompanying lilting piano melodies create tension in the track as the driving rhythm brings the listener into this sonic journey. The floating sonics and atmospheric landscape make it feel like you are drifting through the clouds, swirling in a beautiful cumulonimbus sky.
