“Race to You“ Close Drive

“Race to You” by Close Drive is a fast-paced track full of love and connection that will get you on your feet. Indie pop instrumentation crafts an uplifting vibe to support the lovestruck narrative of doing anything you can to get to your partner as quickly as possible. Close Drive is an innovative indie band based in Philly with an aptitude for building compelling sonic arrangements, and “Race to You” is a perfect representation of their feel good sound. 

The song immediately opens with a quick drum rhythm and energetic electric guitars. Most everything but the kick drum drops out during the first few verse vocals, letting you focus on the lyrics before the instrumentation comes back in. The kick drum hits every beat, marching through the track and mirroring the feeling of running without stopping that the narrator sings about in lines like “I will race to you my love.” Thrumming bass and riveting drum fills build the backbone of the track, providing slight shifts in energy from section to section that are immensely satisfying.

Lyrics like “don’t let another minute pass us by” capture the infatuation this couple has with each other. All they care about is being present in each moment with one other, taking in all of the sweet feelings of their love. “Race to You” is all about the anticipation of seeing your partner, and anyone who has been in a relationship can relate. The other person fills you with energy and jubilance, transporting you to a higher emotional state- just like the killer electric guitar solos in this track.
