“tangerines.” by Alley Eyes is a high energy indie rock tune that immediately grabs your attention and doesn’t let it go. Alley Eyes is a rising indie rock band from Wisconsin that crafts dynamic sonic landscapes with compelling narratives. This four-piece band has artistic chemistry that is palpable in each moment of the arrangement, as electric guitars dance and heavy drums hit. 

“tangerines.” has a one of a kind backstory, as it was inspired by the lead singer’s experience with hypnotherapy. During the hypnotherapy, he spoke to his inner child, which helped him realize that he wanted to reconnect with the innocent, playful side he had in his youth. In this track, the narrator seeks a relationship that will help him bring back his childlike wonder. Lines like “I’m gonna run free and wild with you” explore this longing, offering a fresh take on how a true love can change your life and make you better. All of us could use a little more lighthearted joy in our lives, and finding someone that speaks to that side of you is a beautiful way to find it.

The song opens with the vocal overtop a strumming electric guitar. Then, a triumphant drum rhythm begins before huge electric guitars slam in. Moments of sparse instrumentation and short pauses in the arrangement suspend the listeners anticipation, making the denser sections hit even harder. An electric solo after the second chorus heightens the energy as the irregular rhythm adds intrigue, marking this song as an impactful addition to the rock genre.
