“MM“ by Prigida

“MM” by Prigida is a captivating two-song EP that pulls you into its soundscapes with ease and refuses to let you go. Prigida is an innovative artist who creates electronic house songs with a very unique process. For this EP, the sounds were all pulled from dictaphone recordings, voice memos, and interview clips that he then shaped into the arrangements. This one of a kind creative process cements Prigida as an artist that belongs on your playlists, and with these two songs, he effortlessly pulls you into a world of late night city wandering.

The first track on the EP is “Last Night Promise,” which opens with overlapping audio clips. These clips continue to weave in and out of the arrangement as the track continues, with some of them even being chopped up and used as a sort of atmospheric pad- an instrument on its own. A pumping house beat joins the arrangement as well, with thumping kick drum and thin, tapping hi hats. There’s a section where the kick drum drops out and the arrangement becomes more sparse. Then, it comes back in in an immensely satisfying way, making for a dense and building rise that carries you out of the song.

“MM” has darker sonic textures than “Last Night Promise,” crafting an ominous soundscape that places you in a nighttime city setting, eliciting that kind of midnight wandering feeling of being removed from reality. Moments of energetic, unrelenting production contrast with stretches of floating ambience, pushing and pulling you through this compelling soundscape.
