“Newborn Fossil,” the title track, opens the EP with a deliciously memorable guitar motif with modesty. The energetic new track rides an unapologetic groove. Despite its obvious rhythmic charm, the track feels very lyrics-driven. “Newborn Fossil” has no hidden secrets. It’s fairly straightforward and direct, and you love them for the no-bullsh*t attitude. Sonically, it never stops to transcend itself until the very last note, where it reaches resolution and melodic euphoria just when you are falling deep in love with the track.
“Lo-Fi” picks up and delivers exactly what your heart craves. The warm and fuzzy track is melancholy and melodic. There’s simply no better track to lose yourself in than “Lo-Fi.” It’s all heart-to-heart conversational lyricism and guitarscape. The music speaks to you on such a spiritual and emotional level that it feels like it has a soul of its own.
“The First Summer” feels like an upgrade that combines the best of the first two tracks into a brand new track. The post-hardcore outfit Marcus: the Apex Predator really finds a way to surprise you, and “Plenty & Shine” proves that they’ll never stop impressing listeners. The fourth track brings a whole new world to the EP. From its infectious energy to its stadium-filling soundscape, “Plenty & Shine” is drastically different from the previous three songs, but the surprise doesn’t stop there. “No Fraction” delves into the more experimental, edgy space. Though drawing influences from bands like drawing influence from bands like the Clash, Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, and more, they recall early Red Hot Chili Peppers, where anything can happen.
