Q: Hey Matt, Introduce yourself to our audience here on Rising Artists!
LOWLY LIGHT: Hi, thanks so much for having me on here! First and foremost I am a songwriter. I’ve written songs for dance music artists such as Ultra Nate, Amanda Lepore, Megan Vice and Luca Perra. The excitement of creating bursts of lyrical and musical ideas feels like an ideal form of expression. It might have something to do with instant gratification, though the full process is still involved and can be laborious. Although it might not be as satisfying if it wasn’t?
Q: We notice you just started releasing music. How has that process been?
LOWLY LIGHT: It’s been an interesting challenge. I decided to release Lowly Light songs on my own, without the management team I worked with in the past. So, all the decisions are on me, but I’ve been going mostly on intuition, not overthinking too many choices. For example, the name Lowly Light just came to me without really thinking about it. It seemed a bit strange, but like a stray kitten it followed me home and I just gave in to it.
Q: Where was your current project recorded?
LOWLY LIGHT: Basic tracks were done at home on pro tools, and obviously the vocalists I’ve been working with did theirs remotely, though I wish I could’ve interacted with C. Joleene and Kristin during the recording process. Live input makes it easier and quicker to adjust what sounds best. Finding those moments in the performance that take the song to the next level.
Q: Would you like to collaborate with anyone? If so who and why?
LOWLY LIGHT: Would love to get Roisin Murphy and Skye Edwards from Morcheeba as guest vocalists. What each one does is so amazing with their differing styles. Roisin’s seemingly boundless energy is intoxicating and Skye has such a pure and perfect chilled out voice, plus they both write such interesting pop songs.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
LOWLY LIGHT: What I enjoy most is the writing and recording. Coming up with a hook and getting a final mix done where I’m happy with all parts, both are the ultimate dopamine hits; one from the start of the process and one from the end of it. All the other things are pain points to be lived through haha!
Q: What is coming next for you?
LOWLY LIGHT: Working on the next single for Lowly Light. It’s a mid-tempo groove, got a bit of reggae feel to it, which seems to be one of the default modes for a lot of the songs I write. I think it’s quite catchy melodically though pretty dark lyrically. When I explained it to a producer he was somewhat shocked, so not sure if I should be worried about the general reaction or not… I hope it’s something fans will be able to relate to as an experience.
