“And it’s harder when I don’t know what I did wrong to make me different than everyone else.” This is just one of the many lines of The Voice alum, Kylie Rothfield’s song, Everyone Else that breaks your heart wide open, and makes the endless comparisons we all do hurt a little less. In Everyone Else, Rothfeild makes that pain of comparison and not feeling good enough come to life.
“Everyone Else” has a beautiful melody that moves, while causing you to reflect. The song flashbacks to moments in your life, and will have you remembering them and feeling their weight. Rothfeild sings about high school memories: “High school glory was made of plastic/ gave us feelings that never lasted/ All the fast ones they grew up slowly/ While the smarter ones grew up lonely.” These reflections are honest and real. Kylie Rothfield has a way of telling her story in a graceful and honest way.
Kylie Rothfield’s vocals are soulful, gentle and gorgeous. When I listen to “Everyone Else” I feel reminded that it’s okay to be where I’m at, even if it’s not where I permanently want to be. The song speaks to the endless growing pains we experience in our twenties and how none of us are immune to feeling inadequate and not far enough along yet.
“Everyone Else” is a reminder that despite how successful someone may be- and Kylie Rothfield is very successful- feeling behind and wishing things were different is something that she still feels. The vulnerability she shares in the song is comforting and healing.
“Everyone Else” Is a song with a message and sound that is incredibly heartbreaking, healing and beautiful. It will make you feel understood, remind you that you are not alone in how you feel and give you the strength to keep going.
