“Northern Lights” by Colourshop

Conceived in 2012, Colourshop has defined their unique sound of fresh and inviting indie folk with gorgeous singles such as “Northern Lights”, a remarkable mix of heartfelt passion and clever songwriting.

When Colourshop formed in 2012 it was a duo project between brothers Alfredo and Diego Salvati when they lived in London. Playing together since they were 6, it was only a matter of time before the duo started writing music together. After Diego moved to Spain, Alfredo kept playing live shows as a one-man band, but the brothers still work together and collaborate in recording new material.

Influenced by 60’s artists like Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Young, this serene time in singer-songwriter history has transpired into Colourshop’s music, allowing it stand out with its refined writing and addictive chord progressions. More modern artists such as John Mayer and Damien Rice have also left their mark on Colourshop’s sound.

“Northern Lights” was recorded in Alfredo’s home studio in London and was mixed and mastered by Ian Barter, who he previously worked with for ‘Albert Einstein’, released in 2020. Ian Barter also worked with Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and Rhys Lewis in the past.

Alfredo spoke on the song’s inception:

“I have always been amazed by the beauty of the northern lights, which I saw for the first time few years ago. Also, I am a huge King of Convenience fan and the atmosphere they create with their music. They are from Norway and I have always imagined those Scandinavian landscapes and the cosiness of a fire place in a mountain hut while listening to their sound. That it’s the sound I wanted to recreate.”

A bright and catchy single that captures an innocent yearning for adventure, “Northern Lights” is Colourshop in all its indie glory. With lush production and a gorgeous soundscape, this is the perfect track to introduce you to Colourshop’s ethereal discography. Stream “Northern Lights” now!
