Katasha J is leaving behind heartbreak and finding new love with A Cup of Serenade. The new album has been over two years in the making and showcases all the talent Katasha has to offer.
The Toronto-based singer/songwriter has been singing since she was only 5 years old. From an early age, Katasha looked up to acclaimed artists Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Brandy. She was also trained by Canadian jazz singer Micah Barnes. These influences have led her to a sound that is mainly R&B with a hint of classical.
A Cup of Serenade was produced in Toronto at Rare Heir Recording Studios with the help of producers Cub Reaf and Nate Smith. The album includes 8 tracks including features by Alliston Davis and Dominique Hammons. It begins with the opening track “Coming Back”, a sultry and relaxing track about always going back to the same person. It begins with airy, light vocals from Katasha that lead into a pulsating, addictive beat.
This sophomore album is incredibly versatile. “Vinyl” begins with strings that dip into nostalgic soul while “Tender Touch” takes an intimate turn and slows down for a romantic serenade.
Fans of 90’s and early 00’s jazz, soul and R&B have found their new favorite artist. Katasha has the vocal range and songwriting ability to go far in the music industry. Her voice smoothly transitions from an airy head voice to a rich, fuller sound in her lower register. A Cup of Serenade may only be a sophomore album but it has the nostalgia and passion of a project way before our time.
