“Sky Fallin” by Dean Mueller

The past couple of years have been rough. I don’t think I need to address the pandemic-sized elephant in the room, but that has been such a constant for us that we’ve just adapted to it. That said, let’s go back to 2020 when things started to become real… Didn’t it feel like the sky was falling? For Dean Mueller, it certainly did.

Today, we are here to talk about “Sky Fallin” by Dean Mueller, a song he wrote in the pandemic about the isolation and the unfortunate separation from his musical partner of 8 years. Dean Mueller has a very reminiscent tone in his voice and musicality. The opening riff reminds me of the Steve Miller Band, and the tone throughout the song gives a blend of them and the Beach Boys.

Dean Mueller’s voice is so good! He has this talkative feeling to his music. Hearing him sing is like you’re catching up with an old friend on several of life’s adventures. Honestly, I think that his voice is perfect to handle the subject matter of the lyrics, because the lyrics are heavy.

Dean Mueller does something with this song that I personally love: he blends an upbeat tone with heavy lyrics. The music is relatively happy and fun, but the lyrics say, “I was just thinkin’ that life is good, the world was about to end.” While I don’t want to give the whole song away, the sky truly does fall in Dean Mueller’s life in this song! His life gets turned upside down by the end, and you really sympathize with him when he sings the chorus: Oh, why is the sky always fallin’ around here?

The tone in his voice is awesome. To me, that tone says, “I’ve been through this, and I want to talk about it, but I don’t want to dwell on it.” Dean Mueller’s tone gives you this sense of calm, even though it seems like the world is turning upside down. Don’t just take my word for it, though. Check out, “Sky Fallin” by Dean Mueller and enjoy!
