“The Son Must Follow the Moon” by Tillerman

UK-based Christian Gospel outfit, Tillerman, is truly an outfit that cannot be talked about without mentioning the love they exude through their work and selves. The brainchild of brothers Jon and Tom Kulczycki, the project has grown year after year while never losing sight of the messages of unity and tolerance they strive to represent. Their sound, while contemporary, displays much of the wholesomeness of their influences while telling the story of the world through their unique eyes. This feeling is embodied in their work overall, but especially in their latest track “The Son Must Follow the Moon.”

The piece begins with a jovial eruption of energy as the instrumentals start with a blast of enthusiasm before settling into a softer rhythmic groove. The progression throughout flows smoothly and creates a feeling of warmth and comfort intertwined with a series of picked string solos that embellish the emotional validity of the tune.

The narrative itself inspires us to live with a little more love in our hearts. Each verse tells a tale of humanity, and we feel an instant connection with the message from the opening line “There once was a man who was down on his luck and sat by a gate with a coin in his cup. We watched as the people ignored all of his cries, but you were the one who did open up his eyes.”

Their work feels reminiscent of genuine life advice from a trusted figure and defines the listening experience. Through their music, the artists personify the age-old story of redemption through the love we can find in following the righteous path.
