“REVERIE“ by Diana Omar

“REVERIE” is an enthralling EP by indie pop artist Diana Omar. With atmospheric landscapes, swaying beats, and experimental production choices, Omar showcases her unique brand of artistry in each of these songs. Reverie is defined as “a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts; a daydream.” This EP is aptly named, then, as the listener becomes pleasantly lost in these one of a kind tracks.

Omar explores several themes in her music, looking outwards at relationship dynamics and inwards at her own identity. The second track, “reality,” feels like an existential crisis in song form, offering both catharsis and solace to anyone feeling lost in their lives. She sings “life doesn’t stop for no one” as she talks about the complicated existence of reality. Some things about reality are objective, but you can also shape your reality to an extent through your perceptions and beliefs. Omar implores the listener to just keep trying and move on, because time isn’t going to wait on you.

The closing song on the EP is a display of Omar’s poignant storytelling ability. “plagiarize my life” talks about the vulnerable and destructive experience of being bullied when you’re young. The line “they bullied the curious girl into the shadows” shows how disrespectful peers can change a person’s personality and cause them to withdraw. Omar acknowledges that she overthinks and keeps her emotions bottled up because of this experience, but the steady beat, swelling synths, and declaration that “the time is now” displays an inspiring resolve to heal.
