Artist Interview: “Dance Tonight” by Valaura

Q: “Dance Tonight” is a riveting high energy track. Walk us through your writing and production process in making this song.

VALAURA: For all of our songs, including Dance Tonight, they usually start with a idea brought into a rehearsal and expanded on with everyones involvement. We’ll figure out what kind of mood or atmosphere we want to go for, then we fill it out with our own tastes and influences to complement whats going on.

Q: What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?

VALAURA: One of our highlights is selling out our debut show as a group at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. It was also the date of our debut release and we made a really great impression on a packed house of our peers and all the attendees.

Q: How is the music scene in Detroit, and how do you think being based there has shaped your sound?

VALAURA: The music scene in Detroit is highly varied. In regards to the “rock” scene we play for, there are a lot of indie, alternative, punk, and metal bands that we’ve shared shows with that we admire. Our sound draws inspiration from sounds not commonly shown by those peers, like Pop, Jazz, and R&B. But being based and drawing inspiration from Detroit and Motown we’re able to put together a sound thats unique and fresh while still fitting in with the rock scene.

Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with, if it could be anyone in the world?

VALAURAThats a tough question, thats hard to give one answer with how diverse each members tastes and influences range. A few good contenders that come to mind are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, Dead Poet Society, and Parcels.

Q: In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?

VALAURAWe would describe our music as “Smooth and Sultry Rock”

Q: What projects are currently in the works?

VALAURA: Current projects in the works include releases throughout the year and performing in the Detroit area and beyond. Our next single, “Hard Way” drops January 25th and coincides with a hometown performance in South Lyon at the VFW Post 1224.
