“Bothered” by Fallnorth

“Bothered” by Fallnorth is an eclectic rock song with melodic riffing guitars, steady rhythms, and poignant lyrics. The dynamic arrangement and ambient vocals lay the landscape for meaningful commentary on the state of modern society and its treatment of women. Lyricist and singer Emily Frick wrote this song in response to the seemingly sharp rise of hostility towards women, expressing both fear and frustration over how out of control the problem is becoming.

Frick speaks to fellow women in this tune, offering reassurance that “you are loved” and “it’s not your fault.” These kinds of statements are very important, especially for young women, who may not yet realize that unfair or harmful treatment they experience is not because of who they are as an individual, but simply because they are a woman. Gender inequality has been around since the beginning of time, but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept. Frick’s impassioned and angry vocal performance displays indignance, and a refusal to accept that women should have to live like this. She asks “if we can’t make a safe place for daughters, shouldn’t we be a little more bothered?” in hopes of inspiring uproar and dissatisfaction in anyone who remains complacent in gender inequality.

A dense chorus with chugging guitars, rockin’ rhythms, and belted vocals up the tension of the song perfectly, and this tension further grows with the screaming electric guitar and even bigger vocals of the section following the second chorus. This cathartic track has incredible beats and an impactful message for every listener.
