“Not The Type“ by Consequential

“Not The Type” by Consequential is a vulnerable and dynamic track that showcases Consequential’s one of a kind artistry. “Not The Type” opens with ethereal synths floating across the arrangement, and reverb-ed bird sounds twitter in the background. This immediately elicits a sense of calm in the listener, letting you sink into the track and really take in each element.

Most of the track is fairly sparse and atmospheric, with reflective pianos, pulsing synth, and ambient vocals lilting through the arrangement. But the drums work to ground the song and add contrast, moving rapidly and steadily through the song as little moments of percussion add some ear candy. The modulated vocal is intimate and interesting, with an unexpected sonic texture that makes you lean close. Consequential repeats “I’m not the type of guy” throughout the song, going on to express how he isn’t the best at showing up and making his thoughts known. Instead, he is often “depressed and lonely” and “antisocial,” an unfortunately relatable sentiment for many listeners. Luckily, it is easy to find comfort in the immersive atmosphere of this track. 

Consequential made this track using just a laptop, sitting on a sofa. The sparse nature of this creative process makes the final outcome all the more impressive. It’s hard to believe that such an enthralling and captivating soundscape could come from such a simple setup, but Consequential’s clear artistic vision, along with an aptitude for production, make it sound like “Not The Type” was recorded in a high end studio with top notch equipment.
