“Come Around” by Steve Young & The Real Time Players is a fun classic rock song that playfully tells the story of a man constantly wishing his woman would “come around” and stay forever, counting the minutes between the times he gets to see her. This UK-based band offers riveting rhythms and ear worm melodies, and with this single off of their upcoming album “Famous For A day,” they effortlessly draw you into their sound and get you hooked.
Warbling organ chords, riffing electric guitar melodies, and a snapping rhythm lay the backbone for this track as fun vocal melodies dance. The narrator is practically addicted to his love, singing “my heart’s already pounding” at the thought of seeing her. This sentiment is relatable to anyone who has had a partner they’ve been infatuated with. Your heart rate goes up just at the thought of being with them, and it can feel like the time without them is simply a placeholder until you see them again. This is certainly how it feels to our narrator, who says “I’m counting down the hours ‘til I hold her close again” after unsuccessfully begging her to stay a little longer.
The repetitive verse melodies, closed each time with a catchy hook, are reminiscent of a classic blues song that takes you through the story section by section. Breaks for electric guitar solos and thrumming bass lines add a modern twist to the song, and also mirror the stretches of time the narrator has to go between seeing his baby.
