Singer-songwriter Hilary Cousins’ latest single, ‘Road to Corinth’, stands out in the modern rock scene due to its distinctive song structure and storytelling. Reminiscent of artists like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, Cousins places a strong emphasis on lyricism and meaning. Through the use of metaphors, ancient text references, and more, Cousins invites the listener to embark on a journey alongside the narrator.
“Road to Corinth” is a narrative that many can relate to, told from the perspective of a ‘lost soul’ – someone who marches to the beat of their own drum. We all wrestle with existential questions, seeking something greater and more powerful than ourselves. These feelings of uncertainty and longing for meaning are universal, and in “Road to Corinth,” the narrator embarks on a personal journey to find answers in a world that seems fractured.
The lyrics, “Do you know the way to Corinth? Can someone help carry my load?” and “Some see the world as a treasure; they measure their reflections of gold; but the mirror is blurry and empty” strike a nerve, delving deep into the stark reality of the modern world.
“Road to Corinth” was a group effort. The song was mixed by Mark Needham (Known for his work with the Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Pete Yorn) and Ben O’Neill (Moby, Chris Isaak, Lindsey Buckingham), and mastered by Calbi/Ferrone at Sterling Sound (Arcade Fire, War On Drugs, Kacey Musgraves). The recording process spanned studios in Brooklyn, New York, New Haven, Connecticut, and Los Angeles, California. It featured the talents of Paul ‘Binzer’ Brennan (Waterboys, The Frames, Little Matador) on drums, and Tony Ungaro (Joe Jackson, Marshal Crenshaw) on bass and guitars.
“Road to Corinth” is available now on all major music streaming platforms.
