Q: “Here’s To You” is such a raw, personal song. Is there any story behind it’s origin?
GINA ROYALE: “Here’s to You” stems from my own personal challenges with mental health. I struggle with OCD and eating disorders, and I know everyone has their own struggles. I think it’s important to break down the walls surrounding the stigma of mental health and open the conversation. “Here’s to You” was a product of that effort!
Q: How would you describe the transition from the music you first put out as an artist versus the music you put out now?
GINA: When I first put out music, I was way more of a mainstream pop artist. As I’ve evolved as an artist, my style veers more towards the alternative-pop side. As with practicing anything, my lyricism and musicality has improved so much over the years. It’s cool to take a moment to reflect on where I came from and where I am now!
Q: What are you most excited for about getting back to live performances?
GINA: I’ve gained a lot of confidence over the pandemic, which is odd. Regardless, I am so stoked to bring that confidence on stage with others in a way that they haven’t seen me do before. To sum it up in one sentence: I’m really excited to bounce around on stage.
Q: What would you like to tell your supporters out there?
GINA: Thank you for the support!! My music is streaming more than ever, and I think that’s incredible and entirely because of the wonderful support system I have surrounding me. I am so lucky.
Q: At 23, you have done a lot. Releasing music back from 2015, how has your musical journey been?
GINA: My musical journey has been frustrating, incredible, exhausting, and everything in between. It’s hard to keep optimistic as an indie artist in the music industry. But when it does pay off, even for a brief moment, it is the best feeling in the world. Then back to work.
Q: What is coming up next for you?
GINA: Lots and lots and lots of new releases! Stay tuned 🙂
