There are a million and one reasons why I avoid mirrors, and self-reflection is number one. Why? Because it’s hard to physically see myself, but it’s even harder to reflect on what’s on the inside. This is why in many ways, it was admirable to listen to Elise tackle just that in her latest single, “Ragdoll.”

It was Einstein who said doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is crazy. Yet, so many of us live that way, in the same monotonous and it is a bit frightening to realize that about ourselves, and when we do – we can feel like a ragdoll being tossed around the hamster wheel of life. Elise sings honestly about her own realizations in her first single since 2020’s “Cowboy.” A single with a chorus that illuminates more and more with each listen. So much so, I could imagine it being the foundation for the most pivotal scene in a TV drama be it NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ or Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’

Elise has been releasing music since 2019 with her debut, ‘These Thoughts,’ introducing her take on indie-folk to the world. While based in that genre, this song has the ability to crossover and catch the attention of those who just love honest and raw lyrical content set to a great musical arrangement. One Elise has Grammy award winner Joe LaPorta to thank, as he helped master “Ragdoll” as well as songs for the late David Bowie, Solange, and Shawn Mendes.

With all of that said, self-reflection is necessary to grow and move forward, and for those looking for some musical motivation to do so, “Ragdoll” is available now on all major music and streaming platforms.
