Wotts is an Ottawa, Canada based duo made up of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jayem (Jay) and guitarist Ricky 100. They describe themselves as being a duo that fuses hip-hop with psychedelic/indie pop that is consistently evolving their sound through experimentation…always blurring those genre lines.
“Sunnyside” is the latest hit from the Canadian duo, the easy going indie pop tune is the best for a sunny day, hence the name. Jay and Ricky wanted to give this particular a disco pop vibe and it was definitely achieved, while this song is good for a walk or closing your eyes and absorbing the sun, it’s also the perfect song to dance like no one is watching.
Towards the end you can really hear the hip hop and experimental fuse that was mentioned earlier, this uniqueness is what separates them apart from a lot of musicians in this genre. You can’t help but to love a good “rap” in the middle of a chill song and they take it further by adding sounds you wouldn’t typically hear.
With how crazy the world has been in the last couple years it is refreshing to hear happy songs especially ones about how it is all going to be okay or feeling okay. It’s easy to get caught up in the depression that is the world and Wotts has produced a song that helps take away the sadness, even if it is only for a moment.
