Review & Interview: “Breathing With My Heart” by Jordan Mericle

Since coming onto the music scene and releasing music last year, Jordan Mericle has released four songs. “Breathing With My Heart” is the latest of the singer-songwriter’s singles and hit streaming services on March 25, 2022.

Unlike her last three singles, “Breathing With My Heart” is a slow-tempo masterpiece that focuses more on her vocals. There’s a wonderful build up to the powerful chorus which features additional instrumentals while the verses are centered on Mericle’s voice and percussion. I do recommend listening to “Breathing With My Heart” using headphones as I often do. There are just so many little things that get hidden in a track like this.

Lyrically speaking, the song is about falling in love. Not with just anyone, but with someone who truly gets you. “A hundred lives I’ve lived and never had I known the kind of joy I felt when you breathed life into my soul.” That line says it all. It’s a different kind of love when you find someone who understands you. Someone who sticks by you. Someone who speaks the same language, so to speak. It’s the kind of love we really want. It’s that forever kind of love.

Jordan Mericle may not have been on the scene for very long, but she has already performed live in NYC and gained many fans on social media. If you would like to stay up to date with the singer and songwriter, follow her on her social media platforms linked below.

Q&A with Jordan Mericle

Q: “Breathing With My Heart” is such an emotional and powerful song. Can you tell us what inspired it?

JORDAN MERICLE: Thank you for saying so. Writing this song came from the personal experience so many of us have – falling in love and finding a person who sees you for who you truly are. Like learning how to breathe again after being in the dark for so long and relishing in that intimate experience with another person.

Q: Who would you most love to collaborate with?

JM: This is tough because there are so many! I’d definitely love to do a feature on a Calvin Harris or David Guetta track. There are so many artists whose styles I love; like The Weeknd, Grace Potter, and Billie Eilish to name a few.

Q: So, you say that a combination of Disney, your parents’ selection of classics, and The Bodyguard got you into music. How does The Bodyguard play into this?

JM: It was pretty apparent from a very young age that I was inclined towards music. I wanted to watch and listen to everything I possibly could. Whitney Houston was my first love and she made me want to become a singer. I remember listening to her songs in my Mom’s car whenever we’d drive anywhere, so eventually my Mom wanted to show me the movie (she fast forwarded through the mature parts since it’s rated R! 😆) and I was hooked for life. It’s my earliest memory of seeing a singer on stage and thinking to myself, “I want to do that.”

Q: What has been the highlight of your music career so far?

JM: Working with the team I have at AHM Media and co-writing my own music. Also performing my own songs live with my musician friends! I was actually formally trained in theatre and decided after moving to NYC that I was finally going to pursue my dream of becoming a recording artist, so it’s been very fulfilling carving out my own path in that way. It’s scary and exciting and everything in between!

Q: Do you have any advice for those wanting to get into music?

JM: The best advice I’ve ever gotten is “know who you are.” Know what your style is, and go with what makes you feel the most inspired as an artist. If you’re unsure of yourself, everyone else is going to try and mold you into what they want, so stay true to yourself and work hard.

Q: What are you working on now?

JM: Very excited for more upcoming song releases, as well as playing lots of live gigs in NYC this year! Stay tuned and come support if you’re in the area! 😉
