“Because It Hurts” by Daniel Angelus

Daniel Angelus dropped his single “Because It Hurts” on May 31, 2022. It has an 80’s sound that seems to be slowly creeping into the music scene today. The vibe definitely works for this song and I was immediately sucked into the groove.

“Because It Hurts” begins with a steady bass riff and drum beat. “The moments you avoid, like telling the truth because it hurts” Angelus sings. The title words hit you with their honesty. The repetition of certain phrases in this song further connects you to the story told. The song sucks you in from the music itself to the lyrics. Everything connects and pulls, like it has its own gravitational pull opposite of the Earth.

“Nothing mattered anymore” the singer belts as the drums beat in the background and the music floats along. It’s almost as if you can visualize the notes in the air around you. The singer’s vocals are strong, steady. Confident in his vocals, even through the unexpected high notes yet at the same time not due to the 80’s reminiscent vibe, the singer sings. This unique sound is perfectly composed, produced, mixed, and brilliantly sung.

British-born Daniel Angelus has been making music since 2007, but released his debut LP Miracle Dark in 2016. Two years later, he released Wired for Heartbreak. In 2021, Angelus crafted the soundtrack for the indie film The Lights of the Dawn. Earlier this year, the artist was announced as the soundtrack creator for the Amazon Prime sci-fi film Mr. Earth.
