Artist Interview: “Okay, so what?” by JayRoddy

Q:
Absolutely loving, “Okay, so what?”. Your lyricism is deep and meaningful, along with the catchy beat, “Okay, so what?” reminds me of old-school R&B/pop that I loved in the early 2000s. What was the inspiration behind this track?

JAYRODDY:  I appreciate that, means a lot for real! “Okay, so what?” is definitely one of my more meaningful vibes so far. It’s basically an explanation of the things that are on my mind. I start off by saying, “I love myself; I love my fam to death. I love the process of trying to find success.. I hate that it’s taking so damn long, ’cause I hate my job; I put my trust in god.” This is me telling myself to trust the process & be grateful for the things in my life despite the length of the journey. I also express how love brought light into my life when I was in my darkest moments. Finding the love & forgiveness, I prayed for when I needed it the most.

Q: What do you hope listeners take away from “Okay, so what?”

JAYRODDY: I want people to feel like they can be the true version of themselves & believe in the process. Good things take time, so even when you’re at rock bottom… there’s always a way out.

Q: You really spill your heart on, “Okay, so what?” which I really appreciate; lyricism to me is the most important part of a song; the beat and everything comes after. Can you walk me through your writing process in making, “Okay, so what?”

JAYRODDY: It’s dope to hear that. I’ve always put a lot of energy into lyricism. To be honest, this song really just came to me since it came from the heart. I started with the beat produced by my boy “PAVMADEIT,” & I had to match the vibes. I remember I was frustrated with working a job I hated & started the song with expressing that. Then I just continued to speak my mind until I found something I liked. My process of writing & recording is like building a house. I record piece by piece and keep adding on until I finish.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?

JAYRODDY: Easy answer. The goat, DRAKE. Next question!

Q: What was your favorite part in making, “Okay, so what?”

JAYRODDY: Probably when I came up with the hook & played it back for the first time. This was the first song I’ve made that gave me chills. I’ve never been so personal before, so it was hard to open up like that. Also, seeing my girlfriend’s reaction to the hook, which was about her.

Q: If you were on a stranded island and could only bring three albums with you, which would they be and why?

JAYRODDY: Take Care, 2014 Forest Hills Drive & Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight

Q: Any parting words to your fans?

JAYRODDY: Everything in life is attainable. Never stop being passionate & chasing your dreams. Also if you wanna hear more of my music, search “JayRoddy” on all platforms & follow @jayroddymusic on all socials!

Q:
Thanks so much for talking with me! Tell everyone what to look out for; any projects in the works?

JAYRODDY:  I appreciate the opportunity fr! Keep an eye out for consistent monthly releases & follow me on socials to keep up with the boy.
