Artist Interview: “RUN” by Sydne Strauss

Q: Your vocals are killing it in this song! What was your creative process in making “RUN”?

SYDNE: It all started with me producing a beat on logic just for fun, the more I got into it the more inspiration I had to make it into a song. I got onto the mic and words started pouring out naturally until I had a structure then took it to my producer who cleaned it up and made it sound even better.

Q: The lyrics told a very convincing story and brought out a lot of emotions. Did any real-life events occur in your life that inspired the song?

SYDNE: When I wrote this song, it was during a time when I felt everything around me was changing. I felt like I was breaking out of my shell and becoming a new version of myself that was more confident, wise, mature, and fierce. When I started writing this song it was late at night and I looked out the window and saw it was a full moon which inspired the lyrics “feel the full moon shining on me” and “just look to the sky and watch the old me die”. I have always felt like my relationships both romantic and friendships, never lasted very long simply because they did not understand my ambitions which always ended in me leaving them behind which is why I consider myself a lone wolf which is a main theme in the song. When I was 18 I left my hometown and moved to LA by myself to chase my dream and now I am planning to move to Taiwan next year. I have always felt like someone who is constantly on the run and cannot stay in one place which is why I called the song RUN.

Q: Do you play any other instruments? What’s an instrument that you would like to learn?

SYDNE: I play guitar and piano. I always thought learning to play the drums would be cool and also the harp.

Q: What has been one of the most significant moments of your musical journey so far?

SYDNE: Releasing my first song will always be a moment I hold very dearly to myself. It was the point where I was no longer just singing songs I wrote in my head and instead am able to play it any time I want to. It was the moment I became an actual artist.

Q: What do you do when you AREN’T working on music?

SYDNE: I love exploring nature and my city. I spend a lot of time outdoors. It is also where I find a lot of my inspiration. I love photography and editing as well.
