One of my favorite genres is what I like to call, “ambient rap”, or “cloud rap”. When I talk about ambient rap, I think more about how the beat sounds. The lyrical content is typically solid, but the ambience comes from the beat. “Priceless” by Proklaim is my favorite form of this. It’s ambient with some dope lyrics to back it up.
The lyrics are dope! Proklaim starts the track with the hook, saying, “I just want to make my way”. I love how this starts, it tells us exactly what Proklaim is here to do. Right before the verse starts, he adds to the hook by saying, “By the Father’s Grace”. I love this line, because it’s him saying, “Lord willing, I just want to make a name for myself.” It’s some powerful stuff and feels like a mini prayer within a song!
The first verse starts by him saying, “Only way to get it, get ahead”, and honestly, this is a perfect mantra for the new year! This is a song that will resonate with you coming into 2023. It honestly has given me some inspiration and encouragement for the year already, and it’s amazing when a song can do that.
The beat is so chill! As I said earlier, it’s very ambient. I love beats like this because it can relax you while you’re listening to the lyrics. It’s a great way to start the day and set your intentions.
