Leif Riggs presents “Phantom” in this free-styled track and it’s a throwback of fun that we didn’t expect. Riggs has given us something that is hard to come by, this kind of rap genre, cypher type, or battle rap seems to be non-existent these days, but Leif proves it’s still going strong.
“Phantom” is fresh, rhythmic, and has a vibe of many greats. Just from listening to the song for the first time, we can tell that there is much inspiration behind the track and it’s evidently sharp. From the vocals that Riggs grants us, to the tone and shift of each bar, there is talent here that is effortless.
If listeners are unfamiliar with this kind of style of rap it was mostly popular in the late 80’s & 90’s, and “Phantom” takes music lovers back into time by reminding us of the exceptional artists from that time, such as N.W.A, Ice Cube, Biggie Smalls, 2Pac, MC Eiht, DJ Quik, Spice 1, and many more.
“My mark elevates/ my impression lives long/ come along/ we got to get on.”
From first listen we understand that Leif is definitely an artist to watch out for, as he bares the talent that has been hidden for quite some time.
This genre of rap and hip hop that has possibly been left behind, has found a new voice and his name is Leif Riggs. Make sure you stream “Phantom” and be on the lookout for what’s next.
Our personal is favorite line: Opponents are my breakfast/ they run for exits
