Q: I love your storytelling lyrics! What was the inspiration behind “Ain’t Buyin’ It”?
XOLEX: The inspiration behind Ain’t’ Buyin’ It, happened randomly. One day after talking with my sister about what she was dealing with in her current relationship. I picked up on her energy and how she was feeling and wrote about it.
Q: You got some powerful vocals. It really brought out a lot of emotions! What made me want to be part of the music industry?
XOLEX: I think since I’ve been a little girl I’ve always visualized myself as a singer. I think I would say it’s just in me and comes naturally! I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Q: As an artist, what are some challenges you had to overcome to get to where you are in your musical journey?
XOLEX: I feel like any artist starting up, making a name for themselves in this industry goes through so many trials and errors. Everyone wants the easy route but the hard route allows you to find out a lot about yourself.
Q: Can you tell us about some of your favorite moments making “Ain’t Buyin’ It”?
XOLEX: My favorite moments were definitely bringing the vision to life. In every aspect, whether it be writing it in the basement at my aunts with Ellie Mae, to taking it to Nashville in the studio with my producer Bobby Terry. It’s been a journey and what a great one. I’m so glad I can share it with y’all.
Q: What does your creative process look like? Do you have a routine you stick to or does it change up?
XOLEX: Honestly I just write what I’m feeling at that moment. A lot of the songs I’ve written recently have been about a specific situation that happened in my life and I tell the other songwriters in the session how I felt and we bounce off ideas and then boom, there’s the next hit. To feel connected is important, you want that in your studio session so you have to be vulnerable.
Q: What is coming up next for you?
XOLEX: Man, what a great question! My team has worked extremely hard to get my schedule filled and full of opportunities so I will be busy which I love! I’m like my Dad, keeping busy keeps my mind busy, better that way 😉
