“Blue Moon Girl” by Adam Johnson

New Year, new Adam Johnson, a country-rock Canadian known for his unforgettable tunes like “Craven,” “Blame It On Me,” and “Drinking With The Boys.”

The 2023 SCMA Emerging Artist Of The Year did a 180 and stepped into 2024 with a heart-stirring love song, “Blue Moon Girl” (Jan. 19, 2024).

Inspiration for the track hit Johnson after meeting a woman at a party and exchanging numbers only to realize his phone was acting up (bummer, could’ve been a warning. Jk). Since he didn’t get it fixed immediately, he wrote “Blue Moon Girl” to correct his error and make it up to her.

“Blue Moon Girl” commences with a buttery acoustic guitar and lead guitar riff as Johnson reminisces about their first meeting. Without warning, the SCMA-nominated singer hits us with tender and truthful lyrics about the rarity of finding that particular person, hence the title. I must applaud Johnson for using the perfect title to describe that.

I also love it when country singers reference other country songs. For instance, in “Blue Moon Girl,” Johnson mentions her favorite song, “Beautiful Crazy” (by Luke Combs, excellent choice).

The song was beautifully produced, and Johnson made a great move with this track, showing us a different side of the bachelor, heartbroken, beer-drinking vibes we get from his other tracks. And his sound very much aligns with Cole Swindell’s.

Since starting his music career with “Come On Let’s Go” (2021), his career has taken off beautifully. He maintained his presence on Canadian Country Radio’s Top 100 chart, played various festivals and events, and landed 2023 SCMA Male Artist and Album of the Year nominations, ultimately winning Emerging Artist Of The Year.

Check out “Blue Moon Girl” and add it to your Valentine’s Day playlist!
