Swedish blues and rock singer Linn Holmes’ debut EP, “Introducing Linn Holmes,” is a soulful, groovy body of art. The EP showcases Linn’s deep-toned, raspy vocals, which bring a “jazz club” vibe to her sound. The bluesy melodies played by piano and drums also contribute to the EP’s cohesive and smooth flow. What’s truly captivating is how each track highlights a different part of Linn’s unique artistry, from the soulful “Baby Blue” to the moody “Cut Me,” all flowing together smoothly.
“Introducing Linn Holmes” opens with the ultra-catchy “Baby Blue,” which begins with a groovy piano melody. Linn’s powerful vocals sing over the fun-loving instrumental, an ideal opening for the EP overall. “Cut Me” follows this track, which has a much darker, moody feel. The instrumental on this consists of a melancholy tune, while Linn’s almost cry-like vocals powerfully convey the emotion and pain she is feeling within the song.
“Drifting” is a favorite–Linn’s quiet, angelic vocals sung softly over a mesmerizing backdrop of quiet guitar strumming. Linn’s vocals in this song have an old-school vibe, reminiscent of vocal legends like Amy Winehouse, with a fresh, modern twist. The final song on the EP, “Checkmate,” has an almost early 2000s pop feel, highlighting Linn’s genre-fusing abilities. The song talks about a conclusion to a friendship that is no longer healthy, while the song serves as an indeal conclusion to the EP–a perfect mix of the previous three tracks.
“Introducing Linn Holmes” was written by Linn and Tom Chandler. The EP features artists Daniel Jakubovic, Derek Frank, Adam Peri, Andrew Benjamin Maldonado, Tom Chandler, Alexy Shant Yeghikian, and Jenny Dang. The EP is now available on all major music streaming platforms.
