Portugal-based artist, Miguel Dias, may be the antidote the mainstream pop world didn’t know it needed. His latest single, “What You’re Feeling About Me,” is an instant R ‘n’ B/electronic dance classic.
Full of vitality that would give the likes of Bruno Mars a run for his money, the track starts off with dreamy ambient sounds before kicking into high gear and prompting a furtive dance from any helpless listener.
With a background in classical music, it’s obvious that Dias is a well-rounded, savvy musician. According to his Spotify page, where he amassed over 20,000 monthly listeners, he is also a world traveler, sampling cultural and musical influences from different corners of the globe. Beyond “What You’re Feeling About Me,” Dias’ other tracks are all equally good, albeit different, proving that having technical know-how alongside natural talent will always prove to be the golden ticket.
While I do understand Dias’ decision to sing in English, it is obvious that it’s not his native language, which does distract slightly from the overall enjoyment of the music.
Lyrically, Dias draws on the universal pains of unrequited love, painting a stark image of “feeling like a junkie.” He executes the strong contrast between melancholic lyrics coupled with optimistic music well.
Dias’ first release came in 2019 with the single, “Break Down.” The B-side to his latest single is “Learn to Say No,” which offers a completely different side to the artist. It’s slower but no less sophisticated in its composition.
