“Wander” by Roger Jaeger

Oklahoma-born and Nashville-fortified, country artist Roger Jaeger has spent the better part of their life perfecting their craft, drawing from a wide range of inspiration. Since relocating to Redding, California, their musical proclivities have only become a more eclectic reflection of the notorious adage that good country music only needs to be three cords and the truth. Their latest single “Wander” demonstrates this in spades as Jaeger reflects on a lifetime of travel through their music and the importance of drawing inspiration from the human condition in all its forms.

The piece begins on an upbeat note as a series of acoustic guitar strings play with a welcoming and energetic punctuation. We feel transported into the world of Jaeger’s musical imagination as the music builds in intensity and comfort. As the tone of the record becomes clear, Jaeger’s vocals enter to begin the narrative with the opening line “Sometimes when I get in this car at night, I drive ‘till I see the morning light. That way tomorrow I’m spending this somewhere new.” From the first few seconds, we feel the artist’s sense of adventure with every verse as they take us on a journey right alongside them and remind us just how big the world is outside our door.

The quality of the artist’s voice merits a healthy level of intrigue both in terms of its quality and tambour. While it reflects a resonant and venerable baritone gravity in its vibrato, it retains an optimistic and wholesome demeanor in its range that allows listeners to feel fully invested in their message and develop an instinctive sense of connection to the story.
