“Home Sweet Home“ by Michellar

“Home Sweet Home” by Michellar is a poignant and inviting acoustic rock track. Written and produced by Michelle Bond, the artist behind Michellar, with vocals from Harrison Black, “Home Sweet Home” is the perfect song for anyone who feels a little lost, or like they’ve strayed too far from their roots. The song is based on the narrative of a runaway kid regretting her decision, and calling home to get picked up by her father. Though not everyone has run away from home, most of us have probably had the thought, and this song gives voice to both the desire to run and the inevitable wish to return home.

“Home Sweet Home” opens with an ambient organ sound and an intimate vocal. Then, heavenly synths join the arrangement, oscillating between your ears for a disorienting and enthralling effect. Acoustic guitar strums join in the chorus, along with a sweet harmony. This slow build in production throughout the song matches the emotional impact of realizing how important home is. The narrator is trying to express how home will always be there for his daughter, and the energy rises as he becomes more passionate. He sings about how “no matter where you go,” even if it’s “under the stars, far, far away,” home will never turn you away. 

Bigger electric guitars in chorus two build anticipation, then soar into the dense bridge, which is filled with swooping melodies and an invigorating rhythm. The vocal performance heightens tension with a belted delivery, singing about how even if you run away, seeking the supposed freedom of an escape, you will almost always end up missing home eventually. But there’s no need to worry, because home will always be there.
