“Wrong“ by Hudson Thames

“Wrong” by Hudson Thames is a vulnerable pop track that looks at the impossible decision between two life paths that call to you equally. For Thames, a talented rock pop artist based in Los Angeles, these two paths go towards a fulfilling love or a successful music career. He feels like it is impossible to fully have both, because he either must sacrifice time with his partner to prioritize music, or miss musical opportunities so as to not neglect time with his partner. It’s a difficult balance, and it can be hard to know which choice is the “right” one. Even if you don’t have the exact same conflict, we can all relate to being pulled in different directions by different facets of our life.

A line in the first verse vulnerably displays Thames’ fear that a beautiful love could distract him from his passion for music: “I’m afraid that it’s right, afraid that it’s good, that maybe you know me like nobody could, afraid things work out the way they should.” He almost doesn’t want a relationship that goes well, because that makes his decision harder. Closing himself off from connection allows him to focus on his career. He sings “if i wanted friends, they would be here now,” before wondering “maybe that’s all wrong.”

The music video is cinematic and impactful, further adding to the compelling narrative of the lyrics. It opens with a couple at dinner, looking happy, until Thames begins to grapple with the idea of loving a woman more than his dreams for music. He is pulled back and forth between the world of his relationship and the world of his music, poignantly representing this daunting decision.
