Drift off to the serene sound of indie folk duo Pegasuses in their latest single “Magic Beans.” Their music is not just a blend of Americana and folk with hints of pop and indie rock, but a captivating storytelling experience. The spacy, calming, yet ultra-catchy track is a modern-classic. The “happy” melody in the song is a juxtaposition to the meaning of the track–a story of misfortune and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This storytelling element creates an even more profound admiration for Pegasuses.
Pegasuses consists of artists Laura Lamb and Dave Miatt. This track, which features lead vocals from Lamb and guitar, synth, and harmonies from Miatt, also features Russell Marsden on percussion. Marsden, known for his work with Band of Skulls and Snook Studio, is also responsible for the recording, production, and mixing of “Magic Beans,” while Enrico Berto did the mastering.
“Magic Beans” opens with a summery melody, reminiscent to the feeling of driving to the beach with the windows down. The duo’s harmonious vocals are sung angelically over the instrumental, adding to the track’s relaxing aura. When the chorus arrives, a once-happy tune is turned somber, adding a foreboding element to the summer vibes. This is repeated throughout, adding to the uniqueness of the track.
“Magic Beans” is available on all major music streaming platforms beginning May 30, just in time for summer. This campy, indie-folk track will be a perfect addition to any pool party or kickback you plan to attend this summer. “Magic Beans” is the sixth track from the duo’s forthcoming debut album, “Sea of Joy”, which is set to be released later this year.
