The Thing With Feathers never fails to impress me, and “Dive Bar Breakdown” from their new album So Electric is another reminder of why I can’t get enough of them. They’re the kind of band that makes you want to roll the windows down and accidentally go 80 in a 30 with the volume all the way up. I’ve been a fan for years—my favorite song has always been “Waste My Revenge”—but this new record takes everything I love about their sound and turns it up a notch.
The driving guitar work in “Dive Bar Breakdown” hits in all the right ways: structured, emotional, and bursting with energy that stirs the heartstrings. It’s loud, confident, and full of that signature Feathers magic. And David’s whiny-style vocals? Still absolutely addictive. They bring just the right amount of angst and vulnerability, tying the whole thing together into something you can feel as much as you hear.
I’ve seen The Thing With Feathers live a few times, and they’re just as electrifying on stage as they are in your headphones. I even snagged their Ready to Burn Live at the Exit/In vinyl—autographed, no less—and it’s one of my prized possessions. I’m bummed they had to cancel the Florida leg of their tour, but I’ll suck it up and keep spinning So Electric on repeat. Seriously, check out “Dive Bar Breakdown” and the whole album. These guys don’t have a single bad song.
