Q: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
SCOTT REVELL: I enjoy the buzz of writing and coming up with things that I feel moved by in some way
and that comes back around when sharing that with other people and hearing back from them that they’re connecting to it. I like having an outlet for expressing things that you wouldn’t say in conversation or express necessarily in the same way in real life.
Q: You have an interesting sound that is so fresh. How would you describe your musical style?
SCOTT: Thank you, Indie Folk / Alt Pop as a pigeon hole. I’m working on songs now which lean more electronically but it’s usually based around organic elements first.
Q: What are some of your favourite instrumentations, plug-ins and techniques for your music?
SCOTT: I enjoy vocal layering and using that as like an atmospheric synth. You can get real inventive with that, recording harmonies, pitching them around, bouncing that down, chucking that through some effects, bouncing that down and so on. I like to use drums and percussion in a minimal way, I love how Paul Simon uses percussion, in a lot of his tracks he’ll have parts that pop out and come and go, or his drum track will just be based around a snare and using the acoustic for momentum.
Q: Are you planning any videos for your music?
SCOTT: Sure am. I wanted to release a video for both my singles ideally but have money constraints. I might be a little way off doing a video with a half decent budget but I’m totally cool with that.
Q: Who are your main musical influences?
SCOTT: Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Sufjan Stevens, Imogen Heap, London Grammar, James Blake, Frank Ocean.
Q: What is coming next for you?
SCOTT: More singles. I plan on playing the singles game for a while untill it feels like I’ve built up a platform to release an EP or album.
