Writing the songwriter’s song, Dylan Galvin releases his track “How To Write A Pop Song.” The satirical pop song dives into the boxes that pop radio and charts want to force writers and musicians in. Such as writing super catchy choruses and talking about your ex-partners.
Songs like this are fun because musically, they follow the “rules” of how to write a pop song but lyrically, they get a chance to playfully comment on how silly it feels to continue to repeat all the same ideas. The hook of the song goes on to say, ““If you think too hard, you will get it wrong, you got to stay nice and stupid, if you wanna write a pop song.”
Another one of my favorite examples of this is pop-rock group Marianas Trench’s song “Pop 101” or the edgier comedy song “Repeat Stuff” by Bo Burnham. So it is refreshing that Galvin joins this conversation and gives a fresh perspective and poppier, smoother sound.
So be sure to support musicians even when they do not follow the “traditional pop formula” and go listen to Dylan Galvin’s “How To Write A Pop Song” out now!
