Since emerging onto the New Jersey scene with grace and gusto, America’s Sweethearts have taken fans by storm since day one, as the woman-fronted three-piece indie rock outfit approaches their music with the same sense of ambition and reckless abandon that they do life itself. As they gear up to release their upcoming LP, their newest single “Reject Beach” shines brightly in their catalog as it holds a light up to the relationship between the bandmates and highlights the immense connection of their sisterhood.
A smooth-flowing bassline begins the piece and anchors the single from start to finish. As the world of the music builds around us, vocalist Val Germain begins the narrative with the opening line “Worked a double on a Saturday, take off our clothes and wash the sweat away. Beneath the moon inside the waves, the ghosts of the rejects telling us to go play.” Embodying a Grace Slick-reminiscent style of charisma and power behind her delivery, the song grips listeners in a deep and undeniable way. The musicality of the rhythm feels nothing short of hypnotic as it threads the needle between nostalgic and modern. Grounded in its composition, but energetic enough to palpably inspire movement.
The choice to feature onstage and behind the scenes footage of the members’ journey with this project through the years in the accompanying music video proves nothing short of heartwarming, showcasing the bond they have formed over such a long period of time.
