“Darkest Days” is an alt rock EP by Turn Two, a New Jersey based band who reignited their passion and creativity for music in the process of creating this body of work. After a dormant period for the band, Turn Two steps into a brighter future with the release of these six tracks, which take the listener through an emotional journey from angst, regret, and existentialism to gratitude, hope, and acceptance.
The opening track, “Limiting,” is triumphant and huge, with big drum hits, belted vocals, and an atmospheric landscape setting the stage for this angsty anthem. Lines like “I’ll drink to wins, I’ll drink to losses,” and “can I just sleep for some more time” represent that feeling of trying to struggle through each day, one at a time. Everything feels the same, so you could drink to any of it. But really, what you are looking for is a moment’s pause to just catch your breath.
Catchy rhythms, intense drums, and passionate vocals keep emotions high through every song on the album, but especially the title track. “Darkest Days” is intense and desperate, and the lyric “the darkest days can make the brightest nights” offers some acceptance to all of the conflicting and overwhelming feelings present in this EP. Though Turn Two doesn’t deny that life can really suck, they have a firm belief that it can also get better. With unrelenting guitars, cathartic melodies, and cohesive instrumentation, “Dark Days” offers relatable pain and inspiring hope to its listeners.
