“Buried Treasure Lost Forever“ by Tom Abbott

“Buried Treasure Lost Forever” by Tom Abbott is a gripping work of art, with indie rock instrumentation and introspective lyrics that pull the listener in for every moment of this sixteen song album. Abbott, a New England based singer-songwriter, displays his aptitude for storytelling in these tracks, backed by a live production sound that adds to the intimacy and emotion of these tracks. Acoustic strumming, steady drums, and crisp vocals lay the backbone of these songs, while eclectic instrumentation and blended genres make different appearances from track to track for an extra bit of fun.

The first track, “Another Way,” opens with acoustic melodies and non-lyrical “ahhs,” followed by a moment of silence before the high energy drums and guitars come in. The big arrangement and impactful narrative of this track sets the scene for the album that is to follow. Abbott sings about ignoring his fear and negative emotions, especially in the context of seeing an ex and realizing there is no way to reignite that love, regardless of how badly he wants to. He sings “no matter what, I’ll never find another way, another way back to you,” lamenting the permanent loss of this love.

The album closes with the title track, which has a sparser arrangement than most of the songs on the album, featuring only lightly picked acoustic and the vocal for the beginning chunk of the track. Later, the arrangement builds in density as the vocal becomes more impassioned, offering an emotional and triumphant finish to “Buried Treasure Lost Forever.”
