“Little Brick House” is a debut single by Cass & the Sass, a fresh indie folk band based in Washington, DC. Fronted by lead singer Cassidy Marie, along with Graham Horman on guitar, Lawrence Langley on bass, and Ryan Usumi on drums, the chemistry this band has is palpable in each layer of the arrangement, from catchy melodies to grooving bass lines to dancing rhythms. A track about appreciating even the smallest things in life, Cass & the Sass provides a thought-provoking and feel-good tune with “Little Brick House.”
When you’re with someone you love, it can be easy to forget about the stresses of life and just be happy with the things you have, even if they seem insignificant at first glance. Marie sings about how “all the pets on the couch, you and I on the floor, in a little brick house with a colorful door” is all she needs to be happy, but then later amends that statement, saying “don’t even need a house dont need a door, just for you to be mine and for me to be yours.” Love is really the only thing she wants, and it’s a beautiful and sweet sentiment that reminds us all to remember to be grateful for our relationships.
This track was recorded live, all in one take, and the raw emotion and compelling nature of a live performance certainly shines through when you listen. This choice takes the impact of the song to a whole new level, making it feel like you’re almost in the room with lead singer Cassidy Marie and her band, watching her feel the gratitude in her heart and express it through her voice as the band locks in to the rhythm and provides the captivating sonic landscape.
