Q: This song has a catchy hook and beat. What was your creative process in making “Better (feat. King Marino)”?
AYA ANN: I was going through some beats one day on my laptop and heard this beat which just caught my attention, sometimes with writing it either comes to me instantly or it doesn’t come for a while. With this song, the hook came to mind right away, it was what I was feeling at the time emotionally too as I was in a relationship at this moment. So that’s how the song came to life! After that I wrote lyrics for the rest of the song.
Q: Did any real-life events occur in your life that inspired the song?
AYA ANN: Yes, so this song is about being in love, or just being in someone’s company who you love (in my case it was about a relationship). It’s really about the emotions that you feel when someone makes you feel good, you just get on with them and just feel so happy when you are around them.
Q: How is the music scene in London?
AYA ANN: Right now it’s so exciting. As a positive, I think these lockdowns have inspired artists to write, reflect and inspire. Sometimes all we need is a bit of time out, to think about ourselves and what we want to achieve in life. So whilst artists can’t really do any live performances right now, I think there’s lots to look forward to in the music scene.
Q: How did you come to collaborate with King Marino?
AYA ANN: I found King Marino on Spotify. I really liked his tone, flow and lyrics. It inspired me to reach out and ask him for a collaboration, which he was very happy to do with me.
Q: Your voice is gorgeous! Who are your biggest influences?
AYA ANN: Thank you! Such a compliment 🙂 To be honest that’s a tricky question, I listen to a lot of music and all completely different sounds and styles. So I couldn’t name any artists in particular, just a combination of genres and musicians. I would say though that I look up to Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, and Bazzi the most!
Q: What is coming up next for you?
AYA ANN: I’ve got so much new music lined up which i’m really excited about!! I’ll also be doing more live performances after lockdown and will also be releasing an EP this year.Lots of fresh stuff coming soon…
Q: What would you like to tell your supporters out there?
AYA ANN: That I’m so glad you enjoy my music, nothing means more to me than knowing listeners enjoy my tracks, it’s the most rewarding feeling.
